The inaugural season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) took place in the year 2008. It has been over 15 editions since its inception and many champion players have graced the T20 extravaganza. From the likes of Sachin Tendulkar to Lasith Malinga to AB de Villers, many superstars of the game have stepped into the competition and made it their own.

Also, there have been certain players who have been brilliant readers of the game and have lit the IPL arena with their shrewd leadership skills. Among them, there are certain active cricketers who have driven the chariot of multiple franchises in the tournament.

Here are the active players who have captained more than one team in IPL history

8. Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer has been a proven performer in the lucrative T20 tournament. The Indian batter has held the teams together and spearheaded them beautifully. He has featured in 101 IPL matches and racked up 2776 runs at a strike rate of 125.38.

After Gautam Gambhir failed to thrive as a leader for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) in the starting phases of IPL 2018, the former Indian cricketer handed the leadership duties to Iyer. Though Shreyas was not able to change Delhi’s fortunes in the season, the team management stuck with him.

The ploy reaped dividends as Iyer marshaled the Delhi side to the playoffs in the 2019 season. Then in the following edition, DC went on to reach the final showdown. Impressed by Shreyas’ leadership, Kolkata Knight Riders drafted him into the side in the 15th IPL edition and appointed him as the leader of the troops.

However, Iyer was not able to replicate the magic in his debut season for KKR and the Kolkata franchise succumbed to the seventh position in the league. He would look to make amends and take the two-time IPL champions to great heights.
