The 31-year-old Karnataka-born spinner is representing the Kolkata Knight Riders franchise in IPL 2023. He has been one of the most successful bowlers for the team this season, taking nine wickets in six games at an average of 18.11.

He is the leading wicket-taker for the two-time champions. Varun Chakravarthy has been a part of the KKR team since 2020 with 50 wickets in 47 games.

Besides being an ace spinner, Varun is a huge fan of Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay. Thalapathy is regarded as one of the biggest names in Kollywood and the industry's highest-paid actor. Varun has a tattoo of Thalapathy doing an iconic pose from the movie 'Thalaiva' on his left hand. Varun met Thalapathy for the first time in November 2020 and shared a photo on Twitter.

Varun played the 2019 edition of the league for Punjab Kings (formerly known as Kings XI Punjab) as they shelled out INR 8.40 crore on him. He played just a single game for the franchise that year and was back in the auction pool the next year.

In 2020, KKR picked Varun for INR 4 crore from his base price of INR 30 lakh. He was retained by the franchise for INR 8 crore before the mega auction of 2022.
