The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been one of the toughest T20 franchise leagues since its inception in 2008. The tournament features some successful international players and teams who are adored and supported by the fans.

The fans enjoy celebrating the success, and more so when the team finally wins the tournament after a long struggle. This is the year when the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have finally broken their jinx and won their maiden title under the leadership of Rajat Patidar. Though it was a successful season for the franchise, it is the wait that made the triumph a spectacle.

Apart from RCB, there have been other teams that had to wait a long time to get their hands on the title. Some of these teams are among the most successful ones in the tournament as well. It is time to discuss them and how many years it took for them to win the prestigious franchise tournament.

Here are the teams that had a long wait to win their maiden IPL title:

The Kolkata Knight Riders had struggled to find their feet in the first three years of the IPL, finishing outside the top four. The wait finally came to an end in 2012 under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir, when they beat the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the finals at Chepauk. This win reinvented the once-struggling Kolkata franchise into one of the best teams in the tournament. The Boys in Purple went on to become champions in 2012 and 2014 as well.
