The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 got underway on October 16 with the First Round followed by the Super 12 fixtures in Australia. As we have witnessed 36 matches (PAK vs SA, November 03) already in the showpiece event, there have been some sensational performances by certain players who have etched their names as the highest run getters or wicket-takers of the month-long tournament.

Scalping wickets is something all bowlers relish and in the shortest format being regarded as the batter’s game, the stakes for the bowler are far lesser it is said. On the contrary, the bowlers are ones who can provide major breakthroughs and shift the momentum at any given point.

In this event thus far, Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga has been the standout player in the tournament in terms of wicket taking. The star spinner has racked up 13 wickets under his belt at an average of 13.53. Sri Lanka have been lucky to have him in the side as he has delivered during the crucial moments of the game with his slower deliveries coupled with decent spin.

Blessing Muzarabani of Zimbabwe has rose up the ranks and relished some majestic outings during his stint so far with the national side in the tournament. As the African nation had to fight it out from the First Round, since then the Muzarabani has scalped as many as 11 wickets at an average of 13.54. The numbers are quite staggering for a player form the associated nations.

The Netherlands’ Bas de Leede has been phenomenal both with the bat and ball but has racked up impressive numbers with the latter having scalped just as many as Muzarabani with 11 wickets and has given only 144 runs throughout his run in the tournament.

Anrich Nortje racked up as many as 10 wickets thus far in the Super 12 stage of the marquee event. His most recent outing against Babar Azam’s Pakistan saw him scalp a four-fer despite being hit for 41 runs in his stipulated four over. The bowler has been in majestic form for the side with the ball and a lot more will be expected if the side makes it to the last four.

Bas de Leede’s compatriot, Paul van Meekeren has also given the Dutch side an edge with the ball having picked up as many as 10 wickets in his seven outings for the side. Moreover, his deadly spells have been vital for the side considering the fact that he has handed breakthroughs in crunch moments.
