Team India Asia Cup 2022 Squad: What they are doing now?

The 17th edition of the Asia Cup gets underway on September 9, 2025, in the UAE, with matches scheduled in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, ending in the final on September 28. Originally meant to be hosted by India, the tournament was shifted to the UAE due to political relations involving Pakistan, though the BCCI remains the official host. For the first time, eight teams are part of the event, with India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, joined by UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong from the ACC Men’s Premier Cup. Split into two groups, the top two from each will advance to the Super Four stage before the summit clash. The Asia Cup, alternating between ODIs and T20Is based on the World Cup cycle, returns this year as a T20 tournament ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup. 15. Deepak Chahar Deepak Chahar. (Photo Source: Joe Allison/Getty Images) Once a reliable swing bowler and an important member of India’s Asia Cup 2022 squad, Deepak Chahar has been sidelined and continues to play in the IPL. He represented Mumbai Indians for the first time in his career, after spending majority of his time with the Chennai Super Kings. The pacer's career has been hampered by repeated injuries, slowly making him out of contention from the start. Notably, Chahar is currently playing in the Duleep Trophy for the Central Zone, and looks all set to feature in the finale against the South Zone as well. He was also spotted in one of India's net sessions during the tour of England. Chahar is also the first bowler to have ever managed a T20I hat-trick. The Rajasthan pacer has represented India in both ODIs and T20Is, picking up 47 wickets across formats. 14. Bhuvneshwar Kumar Bhuvneshwar Kumar. (Photo Source: Twitter) Right-arm pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has had limited international appearances since then. His last outing for India came in the third T20I against New Zealand in Napier, after which he hasn’t been selected again. Recently, he spoke about the uncertainty surrounding his international future, pointing out that selection decisions are out of his hands. However, he's been active, leading the Lucknow Falcons in the UP T20 League and even switching IPL teams by joining RCB in IPL 2025. Notably, he is the fourth-highest wicket-taker for India in the T20 format, and is considered among the most consistent bowlers for his accurate line and lengths. With a new set of fast bowlers coming in and selectors opting for younger players, Kumar's comeback to international scene looks far from reality. 13. Yuzvendra Chahal Yuzvendra Chahal. (Photo source: X) Legendary India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal recently cut short his County Championship stint with Northamptonshire and returned home due to personal reasons. The 35-year-old had made a decent impact this season, taking 12 wickets in three Division Two matches. He was also a part of Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League 2025, and was sold for a whopping INR 18 crore to the franchise that also made it to the finals. This was his second successive year with Northamptonshire after a productive 2024 season, where he picked up 21 wickets in four matches, including two five-wicket hauls. Chahal also featured in the One-Day Cup this year, claiming six wickets in his first three games before going wicketless in the next three. Meanwhile, the spinner is no longer part of the fray. 12. Ravi Bishnoi Ravi Bishnoi. (Source - BCCI) Young spinner Ravi Bishnoi helped team India in the Asia Cup 2022, but his form has since dipped. After a standout debut in 2022 and strong performances through 2023, IPL 2025 was far from ideal, as he claimed just 9 wickets in 11 matches for Lucknow Super Giants. Bishnoi, who was seen as an X factor in that tournament, hasn't been able to replicate that form since then. While he has been part of the T20 squad since then, he couldn't make it to the cut for the 2025 edition. He had a season worth forgetting for the LSG, and with strong performances in the domestic circuits, the leg-spinner can earn his spot back in the national squad. 11. Arshdeep Singh Arshdeep Singh. After shining for India in the Asia Cup 2022, he has bagged 99 wickets in T20Is and is approaching his 100th in just 63 matches. Currently in Dubai with the team, Arshdeep is set to share the new ball along with Jasprit Bumrah. He is India's highest wicket-taker in the shortest format of the game, having picked 99 wickets already. While he has confirmed his position in white-ball teams, he is yet to make his Test debut. Notably, the left-arm pacer is very active on social media and often shares behind-the-scnes moments from his personal and professional life. He has also opened a YouTube channel, posting funny content to keep his fans guessing of his next move. 10. Dinesh Karthik Dinesh Karthik. Off the field, he’s often seen in media and commentary circles. Notably, he played in the SA20 2025 for Paarl Royals, making his league debut on January 11, 2025. His SA20 stint kept him match-fit, and he was the mentor and batting coach for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the victorious IPL 2025. Karthik is also quite a popular social media buff as well. He keeps answering fans' queries and opining his takes on the ongoing discussions in the cricketing fraternity. The Chennai-born recently revealed his all-time T20I Playing XI of the Indian team, picking MS Dhoni as the skipper, while the veteran duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were also included. 9. Rishabh Pant Rishabh Pant. (Photo Source: Getty Images) India’s star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was not considered for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025 after fracturing his right foot during the fourth Test against England in Manchester. The injury occurred when a Chris Woakes delivery hit him on the toe while he was batting on 37. Pant returned the next day with heavy strapping and went on to score a 54, but he missed the series-deciding fifth Test at The Oval. After consulting specialists in England and Mumbai, Pant has now returned to India and will begin his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. It is not confirmed whether Pant will be a part of India's upcoming red-ball assignments, as he has been ignored from the squad for the Asia Cup 2025 as well, owing to his injury. 8. KL Rahul KL Rahul. (Photo Source: Twitter/X) KL Rahul, a regular member in the ODI and Test formats, has been out of the T20I setup for three years. Recently, he featured in the tour of England and made a valuable contribution, helping India level the series 2-2. The right-handed batter has heavily scored runs in IPL, but still fails to be in the 15-member squad for the T20I team. Rahul is currently in India and preparing for the Test series against the West Indies. He has been named in the India A squad for the upcoming home series against Australia A, beginning with the first four-day match on September 16. However, Rahul will be taking part only in the second and final match, before finally linking with the senior side for the two-match Test series against the Caribbean side at home, set to begin on October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. 7. Deepak Hooda Deepak Hooda (Source / Getty Image) Deepak Hooda, who had a memorable time with the Indian team from 2022 to 2023, has slowly been out of selection contention due to his irregular performances and squad composition. Hooda was last seen playing in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings, but got very few opportunities. With the current squad combination, it is highly unlikely that he makes it back in the cut. The all-rounder will next be seen in action during the ongoing 2025-26 domestic season, representing the Rajasthan Cricket Association. He had switched his base from Baroda to Rajasthan following a heated episode with his home state skipper Krunal Pandya. Hooda had obtained an NOC (No-Objection Certificate) from the Baroda Cricket Association to look for a team elsewhere. 6. Axar Patel Axar Patel. Once seen as a backup option to Ravindra Jadeja, Axar has become a reliable all-rounder. His spin bowling is set to play a big role, especially in subcontinental conditions, while his ability to contribute quick runs down the order makes him a complete package. As India begins their Asia Cup 2025 campaign in the UAE, Axar is one of the retained players from the 2022 squad. With captain Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir facing tough choices in picking the right XI, Axar’s performances make him an automatic selection. 5. Ravichandran Ashwin Ravichandran Ashwin (Source: Twitter) Veteran spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, has retired from both international cricket and the IPL since then. The 38-year-old, who was part of India’s Asia Cup 2022 squad, has now set his eyes on exploring opportunities in global T20 leagues. According to reports, he is in talks with the organisers of the International League T20 (ILT20) and is likely to feature in the upcoming season. Ashwin himself confirmed that he is considering registering for the auction, which will be held later this month in Dubai. He is also attracting interest from Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL), where he could become the first high-profile Indian cricketer to play. 4. Hardik Pandya Hardik Pandya. The all-rounder is now just six wickets away from creating history by becoming the first cricketer to achieve batting and bowling records. With over 6,000 runs to his name, Pandya’s abilities make him a valuable asset. Notably, the subcontinental conditions are expected to aid his variations with the ball, while his finishing power with the bat will be handy. His presence allows India to strike the right balance in the XI, giving them flexibility in selection. 3. Suryakumar Yadav Surya Kumar Yadav Batting T20 (Source: TIMOTHY A. The right-handed batter has transitioned into a leadership role. Currently in Dubai, he is preparing with the team at the ICC Academy ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup. The training sessions have been intense, with Surya leading from the front, working alongside other players. His captaincy record includes 23 T20Is, 18 wins, and a winning percentage of over 78. Since taking the role post-2023 World Cup, he has led India to series victories against Sri Lanka, Australia, and England. 2. While most Indian players reported to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for their assessments, Kohli is believed to have cleared his tests overseas. Sunil Chhetri, India’s football legend, even revealed that Kohli shared his fitness scores with him from London. The 36-year-old has been training at Lord’s, staying match-ready ahead of India’s upcoming ODI series against Australia in October. Having retired from Tests and T20Is, Kohli now focuses solely on ODIs. 1. Rohit Sharma Rohit Sharma. After announcing his retirement from T20Is and Test cricket, Rohit continues to lead India in ODIs, guiding the team to several historic wins. Under his captaincy, India reached the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, lifted the 2024 T20 World Cup, and went on to win the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Recently, the 38-year-old was spotted in Bengaluru, where he underwent a routine fitness check. Sources confirmed it was part of his regular assessments with the BCCI medical team. Even after stepping away from certain formats, Rohit continues to play in the IPL and will be next seen wearing the national jersey in the tour of Australia, later this year.
