The 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season has finally come to a close, with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru successfully defending their title. For years on, the IPL has offered a platform for young players to shine and make a name for themselves. Players who have, back in the day, done well in this tournament have now become household names, with fans affiliating themselves with these players. Like all years, the 2026 edition has seen many young players make a mark for their teams, becoming household names and playing big roles in their teams' seasons. Here are the top 5 breakout stars of IPL 2026 5. Rasikh Salam Dar Rasikh Salam (Source: IPL) Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru were dealt an early-season blow in the absence of Yash Dayal, who was the team’s reliable third pacer. While it took some time for Rasikh Salam Dar to be introduced to the fold, his inclusion came at the right time. The seamer became the team’s third pacer, a reliable presence in the middle and death overs. Rasikh picked up 19 wickets in 12 games at an economy rate of 9.46 and was the second-highest wicket-taker for RCB in IPL 2026. He was the pick of the bowlers for RCB in the final with figures of 3 for 27 in four overs, playing a vital role in RCB defending their crown. 4. Cooper Connolly Cooper Connolly (Photo Source: IPL) All-rounder Cooper Connolly is one of the highly rated players coming out of the Australian set-up. The 22-year-old was picked up for a fee of INR 3 crore by the Punjab Kings ahead of the 2026 season and was immediately carded in to bat at number 3 for the 2025 finalists. Connolly made his mark in the first match of the season for the Kings, scoring a well-made, unbeaten 72 off 44 balls to guide the Kings home against the Gujarat Titans in a chase of just over 160. The southpaw finished the season with 491 runs at a strike rate of 163.12, piling on runs after the starts provided by the openers. He also notched up his first century in T20 cricket against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, albeit in a losing cause. Idolising Shaun Marsh, Connolly’s impressive showing in the season was often reminiscent of the veteran southpaw’s exploits from back in 2008. 3. Sakib Hussain Sakib Hussain (Source: BCCI) A major reason for the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s tournament resurgence and playoff run was the faith shown in the uncapped bowling contingent in their squad. One of the key members of that unit was Sakib Hussain. While Praful Hinge stole the headlines with his four-wicket haul on debut, Sakib in the same game also picked up four wickets, bowling with accuracy and control. The 21-year-old finished the season with 15 wickets in 11 matches, bowling at an economy of 9.45. The pacer was a vital cog in SRH’s bowling unit, used as their middle- and death-overs option. An exceptional death bowler, with accurate yorkers and a repertoire of slower balls and cutters, Hussain has been one of the standout youngsters in the IPL. 2. Prince Yadav Prince Yadav. They have struggled with both their batting and bowling units, being unable to exert dominance in games. Despite the blemishes, one player who stood out was the fast bowler Prince Yadav, who, in all of the chaos at the team, was one of the tournament’s top performers. The seamer picked up 16 wickets in 14 matches, bowling at an economy rate of 8.83. He has executed his plans with significant accuracy, bowling at a high pace and executing his yorkers to perfection. He has become an all-phase bowler for LSG, and his exploits in the IPL saw him earn maiden call-ups to India’s ODI and T20I sides for series against Afghanistan and England. 1. The 15-year-old southpaw has been the revelation of the 2026 IPL season and, in his sophomore year, has had a run which even the top players would be envious of. The young southpaw scored a mammoth 776 runs for the Rajasthan Royals at a whopping strike rate of 237.30. He smashed records left, right, and centre as he took on even the best of bowlers in the tournament with ease. He came ever-so-close to breaking Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest century, falling for 96 off just 29 balls in the Eliminator against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, and followed that up with a brilliant 97 in Qualifier 2 against the Gujarat Titans. But one record of the Universe Boss he did break was the most sixes hit by a player in an IPL season, with 72. His exploits have resulted in a call-up to India’s T20 side, and the cricketing world is just gearing up to see the havoc he can wreak on bowlers.
