England (ENG) will host India (IND) in the first One-Day International on Tuesday, July 14, at Edgbaston in Birmingham. This follows the T20I series, where the Three Lions emerged victorious in a 4-0 sweep.

England come into this series needing a change in fortunes in their results. They sit in eighth place in the ICC ODI rankings and will miss automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup in Africa if they slip up further. They will be looking for motivation from their decimating victory in the T20I series.

India would be glad to see the returns of Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, without the latter of whom they were beaten in the T20I series. They come off a 3-0 sweep of Afghanistan in their last ODI assignment, which proved to be an opportunity to test out their bench strength and backups.

The two teams last met in a three-match ODI series in February 2025, where India whitewashed the English team 3-0 at home ahead of the Champions Trophy.

Edgebaston, Birmingham Pitch Report

The wicket at Edgbaston in Birmingham offers a true surface which provides an even contest between bat and ball. Batters are able to play their shots because of the regular bounce and carry off the surface. The pitch is on the drier side, too, which ensures spinners could come into action along with hit-the-deck bowlers. The short straight boundaries allow for free run-scoring, while bowlers tend to get lateral movement in the air and off the surface.

ENG vs IND Probable Best Performers of the Match

Probable Best Batter: Rohit Sharma

This is possibly the mercurial batter's last series in England. Rohit Sharma has the most runs by a visiting batter in England in ODIs, scoring 1428 runs in 27 innings. He averages 64.9, striking at 90.78, and has scored seven half-centuries and centuries apiece. He will be looking to add more runs to his tally to take his team over the line.

Probable Best Bowler: Jofra Archer

England speedster Jofra Archer has had a fantastic few months across all formats. He had a stellar IPL season for the Rajasthan Royals, finished as Player of the Series against New Zealand and picked up seven wickets against India in the T20I series, the joint-highest. Archer has taken his place as England's attack leader across the white-ball formats and will be looking to continue his rich vein of form into the series.
