Rohit Sharma’s relationship with Mumbai Indians is believed to be in an ambiguous place. Even though the star India batter was seen in Anant Ambani’s (Mumbai Indians owner) wedding, the cricketer is reported to be leaving the franchise ahead of the IPL 2025 season. Even though nothing has been confirmed, and it’s all reports until now, former cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that the reports have enough merit.

The 46-year-old believes that Rohit will be parting ways with Mumbai ahead of the new season. Notably, under his leadership, the franchise has won five IPL titles but ahead of the IPL 2024, he was removed from captaincy and Hardik Pandya was handed the baton, which created plenty of problems in the camp. Senior players such as Suryakumar Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah were not happy either, and it affected their campaign as Mumbai finished at the bottom of the table.

Chopra noted that the franchise might also let Rohit leave, given his age. He believes that the opener may not play cricket for another three years, which is why, they might let him go. However, he clarified that the same scenario won’t ever happen with MS Dhoni as his relationship with Chennai Super Kings is very different.

“Will he stay or will he go? It's a big question. Personally, I feel he will not stay. Whoever is retained will be with the thinking that he will remain with you for three years, unless your name is MS Dhoni. MS Dhoni and Chennai Super Kings' story is very different but Rohit Sharma at MI, I feel he might himself leave or MI might leave him,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

“Anything can happen, but I don't think Rohit is going to be retained here. I don't have any information, but I feel Rohit will probably be released. He might go to someone in the trade window, that's a possibility that he doesn't go to the auction, but if that doesn't happen, he might be seen in the auction. I feel his journey with the Mumbai Indians is over,” he added.
