Yorkshire opener Adam Lyth has signed a contract extension with Yorkshire County Cricket Club, continuing a remarkable association that now stretches over 23 years with the club.

Affectionately known as the ‘Whitby Lara’, Lyth said he was delighted to extend his stay at Headingley, reaffirming his commitment to Yorkshire and his role in guiding the next generation of players.

“Yorkshire is my home, and there’s nowhere else I would want to spend my career playing cricket,” Lyth said.

“The club is continuing to build something special, and I want to be on hand to keep steering our youngsters through Division One. We finished so strongly last season and for me personally, it was another pleasing year. I still have a lot to give, and I continue to feel a huge sense of pride every time I wear the White Rose,” he added.

The left-hander enjoyed another productive campaign last season, anchoring Yorkshire’s batting line-up and playing a key role in the club’s strong finish in Division One. His consistency at the top of the order and leadership on and off the field have made him a central figure in the county’s red-ball ambitions.

Yorkshire’s General Manager of Cricket Gavin Hamilton said the contract extension was a fitting reward for Lyth’s sustained performances and influence within the squad.

“Adam has been an exceptional leader over several years now and the returns he has given year in, year out have been tremendous. This extension is further recognition of the high regard we place in him,” Hamilton said.

“His quality remains clear for everyone to see, and his presence is valued immensely by everyone in the playing squad. I know he feels he still has runs out there for him and we wholeheartedly agree. Everyone is delighted to see Adam continue his iconic presence at the top of the order for a further year,” he added.

Lyth’s extension ensures continuity for Yorkshire as they look to build on recent progress, with the experienced opener expected to remain a key figure in both performance and mentorship roles during the upcoming season.
