An eccentric incident occurred during the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) when a little boy was captured on camera sitting in the stands and holding a placard that read, ‘I can outstare Andrew Tye'. The little kid challenged Perth Scorchers' pace spearhead Andrew Tye for a staredown battle.

In response, Tye gave him a stern stare as soon as the camera panned towards him and made a gesture that seemed Tye telling the kid that he can't outstare him. BBL posted a video on their social media with the caption, ‘This is haunting.’ Sports broadcaster Mark Howard who was on air at that point in time was quick to mention about the incident. He said, "Real crazy eyes, Dale Steyn type of territory that is."

Meanwhile, Perth Scorchers defeated Melbourne Renegades by ten runs in a high-scoring encounter on Sunday, January 22. Asked to bat first, Scorchers scored a massive 212 for the loss of 5 wickets. Thanks to the opening stand of 87 runs between Stephen Eskinazi and Cameron Bancroft in 7.3 overs, Scorchers got off to a flyer.

Eskinazi scored 54 off 29, including six fours and three sixes. Bancroft remained unbeaten on 95 off 50 balls with the help of five fours and six maximums, Later by virtue of some finishing touch by Cooper Connolly ( 20 off 11) helped Scorchers to go beyond 200. Corey Rocchiccioli and Matthew Critchley took two wickets each for Renegades.

In reply, Shaun Marsh laid the foundation for Renegades with his half-century, scoring 54 off 34 deliveries, including seven fours and one maximum. Then the skipper Aaron Finch took the charge with an unbeaten and quickfire 76 off 35 deliveries with seven fours and five sixes, but that wasn't enough for Melbourne to cross the line as they got restricted to 202 for the loss of 5 wickets.

Ashton Turner turned out to be the most successful bowler for Scorchers bagging two wickets in three overs while conceding 25 runs.
