BCCI declares Rohit Sharma fully fit ahead of India versus Afghanistan ODI series
Earlier in the day, Hardik was also declared fit.
The Centre of Excellence has cleared Rohit Sharma for his fitness ahead of the upcoming One-Day International (ODI) series between India and Afghanistan. Rohit had endured a hamstring injury during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 and was included in the ODI squad with a condition that he would be required to prove his fitness at the CoE in Bengaluru, which he has now duly obtained.
Hardik Pandya, who was also recuperating from a back spasm during the IPL while captaining the Mumbai Indians, also obtained a fitness clearance from the CoE shortly before Rohit got his. As a result, the star duo will now be joining the Indian squad soon, with the first ODI of the three-match series set to be played on Saturday, June 13.
However, the biggest unavailability from the series would be that of the star Indian batter and experienced veteran Virat Kohli. The ace cricketer has been ruled out of the series due to a hamstring injury, which he sustained during the IPL 2026 final for Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Out of the series, Kohli has been replaced by Yashasvi Jaiswal, the selection committee confirmed.
India's ODI squad:
Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer (VC), KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Prince Yadav, Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey
