Former Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara’s brother-in-law, Jeet Rasikbhai Pabari, took his life by suicide on Wednesday at his Rajkot residence. He was rushed to a private hospital by the Malviyanagar Police team, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. His body has been sent for post-mortem, and legal procedures are currently underway.

Notably, exactly one year earlier, on 26 November 2024, Jeet’s former fiancee had filed a rape complaint against him at Malviya Nagar Police Station. The complaint accused Jeet of forcing physical relations under the pretext of marriage. She alleged that the assault took place during their engagement period and claimed that the engagement was later called off due to the alleged incident. The coincidence of dates has raised questions about whether the ongoing legal pressure may have contributed to Jeet’s deteriorating mental state.

Police sources confirmed that a detailed investigation is in progress to understand the circumstances leading up to the suicide. Officers stated that Jeet had been facing the legal case over the past year and appeared to be under considerable stress. However, they emphasised that the exact reason behind the suicide will only be confirmed after the post-mortem report and further inquiry.

Meanwhile, Jeet Pabari came from a well-known Rajkot family. The Pabaris originally hail from Jamjodhpur but have been living in Rajkot for over two decades, where they run a cotton ginning factory. Jeet’s father, Rasikbhai Pabari, is a businessman.

The tragedy has also affected Pujara and his wife, Pooja, who lost her younger brother in this heartbreaking incident. Pooja, born in Gondal, comes from a close-knit family with one younger brother and one younger sister. She completed her schooling at Sophia School in Abu until Class 10, pursued further studies in Ahmedabad, and later earned her Master’s degree in Bombay. Before marrying Cheteshwar, she had also worked for a multinational company for a year.
