CPL 2025: Brandon King moves to Barbados Royals; Rahkeem Cornwall, Obed McCoy join Falcons
The CPL 2025 is scheduled to take place from August 14 to September 21.
Brandon King has been traded from Antigua & Barbuda Falcons to the Barbados Royals ahead of the 2025 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) season. As part of the deal, the Falcons have acquired all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall and left-arm pacer Obed McCoy.
King has scored 1837 runs in CPL so far and was the tournament’s leading run-scorer in the 2019 season. He has registered two seasons with 400-plus runs and was also named Player of the Season in CPL 2022, where he played an important role in guiding the Jamaica Tallawahs to the title.
With King leaving, Falcons have brought in Cornwall, who returns to his home franchise after spending three seasons with the Barbados Royals. He has scored 1347 runs at a staggering strike rate of 150 and has also claimed 35 wickets in CPL history.
Meanwhile, McCoy, who previously played for Saint Lucia Kings and Barbados Royals, joins Cornwall in the Falcons. The left-arm pacer has 56 wickets in 52 CPL innings with his standout season coming in 2022, where he bagged 15 wickets for the Royals.
West Indies' veteran all-rounder Jason Holder was acquired by the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots. Holder was with the Barbados Royals since CPL's inception and played a crucial role in their two title-winning campaigns. Patriots also acquired Alick Athanaze, who represented Royals in 2023 and 2024, while Sherfane Rutherford has moved to the Royals.
The CPL 2025 is scheduled to run from August 14 to September 21. The organisers have ensured there will be no scheduling conflicts with West Indies international fixtures. Saint Lucia Kings will enter the tournament as defending champions.
