They were travelling in a Lamborghini, which veered off the road and burst into flames, as per the authorities. Evidence at the heartbreaking scene suggests Jota's car suffered a burst tyre while overtaking, Spanish police said in a statement.
Jota had tied the knot with his partner, Rute Cardoso, whom he had dated for 10 years, in June. The couple had three children as well. Jota was roped in by Liverpool Football Club in 2020. The centre forward scored 65 goals from 182 games for the Reds. He had been having a splendid time in his professional career, winning the Premier League in the 2024-25 season and the recently-concluded UEFA Nations League. Jota's brother, Andre Silva, who also passed away in the car crash, was a footballer as well, playing for Penafiel in the Portuguese second division.
