The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has released ace pacer Hasan Ali from their squad for the upcoming four-match T20I series against England. The decision allows Hasan to continue his stint with English county side Warwickshire rather than being part of Pakistan's T20 World Cup plans.

The 29-year-old was initially named as an injury cover for star seamer Haris Rauf, who has now recovered from a groin issue and has returned to the squad. With Rauf back to full fitness, the team management felt Hasan's services were no longer required for the upcoming series.

"Fast bowler Hasan Ali has been released from the T20I squad. The team management has decided to let Hasan Ali continue his commitments in county cricket," read a PCB release.

The right-arm seamer has been a consistent wicket-taker for the Men in Green in the 20-over format over the years, with 60 wickets in 51 matches at an economy rate of 8.45. However, his recent outings have been disappointing to say the least. Ali went wicketless and conceded 42 runs in Pakistan's third and final T20I against Ireland earlier this month.

Pakistan yet to finalize squad for T20 World Cup 2024

The decision confirms Pakistan will trim their current 18-member squad to 15 players ahead of the T20 World Cup. They are one of the last teams yet to finalize their World Cup contingent, with the deadline set by the ICC for May 25th. Two additional travelling reserves are expected to be named in addition the main squad.

While Hasan's exclusion raises eyebrows, Pakistan will likely place their faith in an attack led by Rauf, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Naseem Shah. The batting order also looks strong with Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Fakhar Zaman in good form.

Pakistan recently defeated Ireland 1-2 in a three-match T20I series and will be up against England for a four-match T20I series before the travelling to West Indies and USA for the coveted T20 World Cup 2024 in June. Babar Azam & Co are placed in Group A alongside India, USA, Ireland, and Canada.
