The talismanic Jasprit Bumrah bagged his first-ever five-for at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground in London on Friday, July 11, on Day 2 of the third Test between India and England.
Bumrah, who bagged a five-for in the first innings of the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds, was rested in the second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham. However, he has made his presence felt at the Home of Cricket by bowling magnificently on a surface that hasn't been as flat as the last two Tests, but certainly not a fast bowler's paradise as was expected by many in the build-up to the clash.
On Day 1, Bumrah had bowled a beautiful delivery to dismiss the dangerous Harry Brook. However, he breathed fire in the morning session on Day 2, dismissing Ben Stokes, Joe Root, and Chris Woakes in the space of seven deliveries. The Gujarat seamer was on a hat-trick in the fifth over of the day after dismissing centurion Root and all-rounder Woakes off consecutive deliveries. However, Brydon Carse managed to fend off the hat-trick ball.
England slumped from 260/4 to 271/7 after Bumrah's stunning spell with the second new ball. However, Carse stitched a counterattacking 84-run partnership with Jamie Smith to bring England back into the contest. Mohammed Siraj broke the crucial stand, dismissing Smith for 51. A couple of overs later, Bumrah got the better of Jofra Archer, who became his fifth victim in the innings.
