Legendary former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has applauded Suryakumar Yadav for rediscovering his touch in T20 Internationals, saying the India captain’s recent batting display was a clear sign that his confidence and timing are finally back ahead of the much-awaited ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Gavaskar’s remarks come after Suryakumar produced a blistering knock of 57 off 26 balls, continuing his dream run with the bat in the ongoing series. The knock was his second half-century in the five-match series.

The ace commentator shared his thoughts on the Indian captain’s return to form ahead of the marquee event.

“His knock the other day in Raipur gave him exactly the confidence he needed. He hasn’t been short of form; he’s been short of runs,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports.

“He has been batting very well in the nets. He’s not struggling there, he’s hitting the ball cleanly and all around the ground. It just wasn’t working for him in matches. Sometimes, all it takes is a bit of luck to get going. This time, he didn’t even need luck. That innings was exactly what he needed,” Gavaskar concluded.

India’s dominant performance in the ongoing series against the Black Caps has been superb, with Suryakumar leading from the front, offering not only runs but also confidence ahead of their title defence at the T20 World Cup, which begins in early February.

Sunil Gavaskar in awe of Team India’s dominance

The legendary batter was in awe of Team India’s dominance after they clinched the series 3-0, with a dominating win in Guwahati. The Men in Blue chased down a target of 154 in just 10 overs. After the match, the Mumbai batter shared his honest thoughts about this Indian T20 unit.

“Look at everything, not just the batting. Their bowling, their catching, their outfielding — they were a champion side. He suggested that any team watching would be left wondering how to compete. What do we do against this side? How do we stop this side? This is a side to beat. This is a side that will take some beating,” said Gavaskar.

With the series already won, the Indian team management will look to fill the gaps, with the T20 WC just around the corner.
