Star Indian batter Virat Kohli once again fell short of an IPL (Indian Premier League) title. Representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the 17th time in 2024, Kohli and co. managed to pull off a sensational comeback and make it to the knockout stages of the tournament.

As the IPL 2024 kicked off, RCB only managed to win one of the first seven matches that they played. However, they went on a winning spree after that and managed to finish in fourth place in the standings. It is worth noting that despite RCB’s early elimination from the tournament, Virat Kohli finished in first place in the IPL orange cap standings, as he scored 741 runs in 15 innings.

However, their dream run was cut short by Rajasthan Royals who faced a defeat in the eliminator of the competition and crashed out. After the defeat, former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen came forward to talk about how Kohli should look to change his franchise if he wants to win the IPL.

“I understand for the brand of the team and the commercial value he brings to the team... But Virat Kohli deserves a trophy. He deserves to play in a team that could help him to get that trophy,” Pietersen told Star Sports.

'He wants to win for RCB, that's his call' - Akram on Kohli's probable move

Seeing his opinion, former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram came forward to disagree with Pietersen. Akram suggested that foreign players should not speak about such matters, opining that it would be Kohli’s choice eventually.

"I've a very strict answer. Kevin is a very good friend of mine. All these foreign ex-players, who do the commentary, they tweet about everything related to India. I'm all for it... it's probably right but it's not a big deal for me. It's a big deal for Kohli, maybe. He wants to win for RCB, what would changing the team do for him, then? He wants to win for RCB, that's his call. That's my opinion. I don't want to speak on everything, that's what I've learned," Akram told Sportskeeda.
