'I just want to focus on my things' - Shree Charani reveals gameplan after tormenting Pakistan in Women's Asia Cup clash
The 22-year-old Indian bowler took 3/7 as Pakistan collapsed to 55, their lowest T20I total, in a Women's Asia Cup group match.
India defeated Pakistan by seven wickets in a Women's Asia Cup group match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Pakistan was bowled out for 55, their lowest total in T20I cricket. India completed the chase in 8.4 overs, requiring just 57 runs to win.
Shree Charani, the 22-year-old Indian bowler, delivered a match-winning spell with figures of 3/7. She removed Gull Feroza for a duck and Shawaal Zulfiqar for 14 in four deliveries, then struck again in the next over to dismiss Ayesha Zafar for two. By the eighth over, Pakistan were reduced to 32/4, with Charani being the wrecker-in-chief.
Charani said that she had interacted with Deepti Sharma and Radha Yadav ahead of the match and tried to implement their suggestions. She explained that her focus was on doing the basics right.
"In the meeting, we three sit together... Prema, me, Deepti di and Radha (Yadav) di and we discuss what to do (in the match). So, we just try to implement that here (on the field) whatever Deepti and Radha di say," Charani was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.
"It's just about myself. Like I just want to focus on my things... I want to do my things correct," the talented youngster added.
Charani added that her target was the bowl on the stumps and not try anything extraordinary as there was help for the spinners from the surface.
"I just tried to bowl on the stumps. By seeing the pitch, we know it may turn so I just focused on that." Charani said.
Prema Rawat took 3/9 and Deepti Sharma claimed 2/5 as India's bowling attack dismantled Pakistan's batting order. Shafali Verma provided the first breakthrough by bowling Muneeba for 13. The comprehensive victory extended India's winning streak in the group stage.
Charani has accumulated 7 wickets across three matches in the tournament. She is ranked the world's number one T20I bowler.
India finished top of the points table after winning all three group games, securing their semifinal berth before this match and finishing with six points. They will be competing in the first semi-final on September 10.
