‘I will look back and see what I can do better’ - Babar Azam aims to learn from PSL 8 journey
Peshawar Zalmi were knocked out of the tournament by Lahore Qalandars.
After suffering a four-wicket defeat at the hands of Lahore Qalandars in Eliminator 2, the Babar Azam-led Peshawar Zalmi were knocked out of the ongoing Pakistan Super League. Notably, the Zalmi skipper aggregated 522 runs in 11 matches in the season and is currently the tournament's leading run-scorer.
While reflecting on the journey, the skipper revealed that he was happy with his form but, at the same time, was disappointed that it couldn’t help his team get over the line.
The 28-year-old also stated that it was a good journey in the eighth edition of the competition and is happy with how his team turned things around in the second half.
“It was a good journey, but unfortunately, we couldn't finish. We didn't perform as well as we should have but made a comeback in the second half, and everyone tried to learn and gave their 100 percent. Happy with the form but disappointed that it didn't help the team win. I will look back and see what I can do better,” Babar was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
Babar lauds youngster Mohammad Haris
In the match against the Qalandars, Babar made a strategic change as Mohammad Haris was sent down the order with Saim Ayub opening with the skipper. The plan worked well as batting at number three, Haris scored 85 off 54 deliveries and helped the franchise post a healthy total on the board.
Regarding the move, Babar said he was very impressed with Haris and advised the batter to play in different situations and build his game.
“We sent Mohammad Haris to open, but then we changed our planning against Lahore and went with a left-right combination (Babar-Saim) given how Shaheen gives a tough time to right-handers, and that is why we changed our combination a little bit, and Haris responded positively to the shuffle in the batting line-up, and this is what we are trying to inculcate in our players which is to perform in different scenarios and play according to the match situation, and I think our youngsters have developed this trait in themselves in this tournament,” Babar added.
