The National Sports Council (NSC) has formed a special five-member committee to investigate alleged irregularities during the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) most recent elections which took place in 2025.

This official announcement from the NSC comes days after former Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal led a request for a formal investigation into the election carried out last year stating that 50 out of 76 clubs in Dhaka have backed for the investigation to go ahead.

AKM Asaduzzaman, the retired Supreme Court judge, is set to head the committee along with Md Selim Fakir, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mohammad Nasirul Islam, the Joint Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, sports journalist ATM Sayeed Uzzaman and Supreme Court advocate Barrister Saleh Akram Samrat.

According to reports, the NSC has ordered the said committee to submit a report to the Ministry of Youth and Sports within the next 15 days and dive deep into the alleged irregularities.

The main tasks that would be carried out by the aforementioned committee will be to collect evidence from various documents and take statements from the personnel involved during the 2025 BCB elections. From the collected evidence, the committee will then make a decision on whether the elections were conducted under the laws and regulations of the BCB constitution.

Apart from carrying out the necessary investigation regarding the 2025 election, the committee will also make necessary recommendations for future elections to be carried with maximum transparency.

Following Iqbal’s request, there have been further concerns raised by the Divisional councillors and other former cricket organisers over irregularities in nominations of the councillors and misuse of authority by various officials over the course of the election process.
