IPL 2024: DC vs GT Match 40 - Top 3 player battles to watch out for

Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Titans (GT) are gearing up for their second meeting in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL). When the two met at the Narendra Modi Stadium last week, DC upset the home team with an emphatic six-wicket victory.

While Ahmedabad witnessed a low-scoring encounter, Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium is expected to feature a batting-dominant game on Wednesday, April 24. This is the same venue where Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) recently piled up 266 runs - the fourth-highest team total in league history.    

DC may have learned lessons from the SRH assault and will be confident after beating GT in their backyard. However, GT, who are coming on the back of a three-wicket win against PBKS, are ranked sixth in the points table. DC, on the other hand, are eighth in the standings with three wins and six points.

3. Jake Fraser-McGurk vs Rashid Khan

Fraser-McGurk has amassed 140 runs in the three matches he has played so far and those came at a staggering strike rate of 222.22. The young Australian was recruited for his explosive hitting in the domestic leagues and he did not fail to light up the IPL with some powerful knocks.

The right-hander is likely to open the innings or come in at number three. It is noteworthy that Fraser-McGurk has fallen prey to leg-spinners five times in 16 T20 meetings. For the same reason, Shubman Gill will rely on his star spinner Rashid Khan to get rid of the destructive batter.

2. David Miller vs Kuldeep Yadav

David Miller has recently returned to the GT XI but has not been at his best this season. However, when the Proteas batter is on the crease, he can single-handedly pull off any impossible equation. DC are well aware of the threat of the middle-order batter but they will try to counter it with Kuldeep Yadav's spin magic.

The left-arm wrist spinner is in great form, claiming a four-fer in the last match against SRH. Kuldeep will start his proceedings in the middle overs, where Miller will look to unleash his beast inside. Kuldeep has dismissed the left-handed batter twice in six previous meetings and the latter has a strike rate of just 112.50 in this battle.

1. Shubman Gill vs Ishant Sharma

Shubman Gill is the backbone of GT's batting department. Their opening partnership has been poor this season, but the GT captain remains firmly on top. The right-hander has scored 298 runs so far but was kept quiet in the previous meeting against DC.

He was dismissed in the second over of the innings for just eight runs, with veteran pacer Ishant Sharma doing a brilliant job with the new ball. Gill can score big if he settles down at the crease and DC will want to send him packing inside the powerplay. Right-arm pacer Ishant will once again look to dominate against the young skipper.
