The Sunrisers Hyderabad are now out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 after their poor showing against Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Stadium, New Chandigarh, on Wednesday, May 27. SRH lost the game by 47 runs, which has enabled RR to take themselves through to the Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans on May 29.

The match started with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi launching a merciless onslaught against the SRH bowlers, taking them to cleaners all along the ground. Pat Cummins' men looked absolutely clueless against the 15-year-old, as he played a jaw-dropping knock of 97 off just 29 deliveries. Dhruv Jurel (50 off 21) and Riyan Parag (26 off 12) also played decent hands as RR posted 243/6, also their highest total in IPL history.

SRH had high hopes from Abhishek Sharma, the attacking opener, to come good in the daunting run chase in the do-or-die encounter. However, Abhishek was trapped by Jofra Archer for a silver duck to bring RR into the game right away. Ishan Kishan and Travis Head made good use of the powerplay, but both departed after staging a 50-run partnership. Smaran R also went back without adding much to the total.

Despite a healthy run rate in the powerplay overs, SRH had lost four crucial wickets and looked in a spot of bother after 71 runs, as the target was far from being accomplished after the field restrictions were lifted. Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Salil Arora, too, departed after getting starts. Lack of big contributions from the batting unit eventually costed the 2016 champions a loss in the important clash.

Archer was the most impressive bowler for RR, picking up three of the most crucial wickets after his four overs that went for 58. Nandre Burger was also impressive for his 2-26 in three overs. Sushant Mishra (2-21 in 2.2 overs) and Ravindra Jadeja (2-21 in 3 overs) had identical figures, while Yash Raj Punja (1-39) also contributed decently with the ball. Brijesh Sharma, on the contrary, returned wicketless.
