Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) lost to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 47 runs at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on Wednesday, May 27. The Riyan Parag-led side progressed to Qualifier 2, where they will face the Gujarat Titans, whereas SRH have been eliminated.

Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bowl first on a stunning batting track. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made the most of the conditions, amassing a 16-ball half-century. Yashasvi Jaiswal, however, played single fiddle once again. Sooryavanshi raced to 97 off 29 balls before getting dismissed by Praful Hinge in the eighth over.

Dhruv Jurel carried the momentum given by Sooryavanshi, as he smashed a 20-ball half-century. Yashasvi was dismissed for a run-a-ball 29, but Riyan Parag gave great support to Jurel with his 26-run knock off 12 deliveries. SRH picked up quite a few wickets in the back end of the innings and restricted RR to a score below 250. The inaugural champions finished on 243/8.

In reply, Jofra Archer once again struck in his first over. On the second ball, he sent Abhishek Sharma back to the hut. Ishan Kishan and Travis Head threw the kitchen sink at the RR bowlers as SRH brought up 50 runs inside the third over. However, Archer bounced back with the wicket of Kishan, who perished for 33 off 11 balls.

Archer went on to dismiss Travis Head as well, and credit goes to captain Parag for persisting with the England pacer even when he was being hit to all parts by the SRH top order.

Heinrich Klaasen was looking dangerous, but the talented Yash Raj Punia got the better of him in the seventh over. SRH lost half their side inside seven overs. Salil Arora and Nitish Kumar Reddy added a defiant 56-run stand off 24 balls before the latter was dismissed by the wily Ravindra Jadeja.

Salil Arora and Shivang Kumar hit a few boundaries but in the end, the Orange Army was bowled out for 196 in 19.2 overs.

Here are the top highlights from Eliminator:

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi shatters records

Sooryavanshi hit three sixes and one four off Pat Cummins in the third over and followed it up with three more sixes in the subsequent over bowled by Sakib Hussain. In the end, Sooryavanshi finished with 97 off 29 balls, hitting five fours and 12 sixes. His strike rate was a whopping 334.48. The southpaw now has the most runs (680) by an uncapped batter in an IPL season and also the most sixes in a single edition of the tournament.

Jofra Archer takes down famed SRH top order

Jofra Archer has made a habit of taking wickets in his first over in IPL 2026. He dismissed Abhishek Sharma with his second delivery, giving RR a dream start. Travis Head and Ishan Kishan did go after him and hit a flurry of boundaries but the right-arm seamer bounced back commendably to dismiss the two left-handers. In the end, Archer finished with figures of 3/58 in four overs.

Dhruv Jurel has another impressive outing with the bat

Dhruv Jurel might have gotten a bit overshadowed by Sooryavanshi's brilliance, but he has been exemplary for the Royals this season. The wicketkeeper-batter batted with great fluency, hitting the ball to all parts of the ground during his 50-run knock off 21 balls. He hit five fours and three sixes during his knock, finishing with a strike rate of 238.1. This was his sixth fifty of the season.
