Rajat Patidar ruled out of Duleep Trophy; Avesh, Mayank undergo surgeries
Rajat Patidar is set to miss Duleep Trophy due to a hand injury sustained during the IPL 2025.
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain and India batter Rajat Patidar is set to miss the Duleep Trophy, as the batter has been advised to take rest by the BCCI’s medical team at the Centre of Excellence. Patidar was in the radar for the England tour but missed out due to the hand injury, which he sustained during RCB’s victory campaign after their IPL 2025 triumph.
Patidar has already made his Test debut for the country, however, he hasn't managed to stay in the side for longer, as the injuries have been a regular for the Indore-born. The youngster is on the track to feature for the Men in Blue in T20Is as well, as his skills with the bat were on display in the IPL season gone by. For the time being, though, Patidar will focus on his recovery, and then hit the ground running in the Ranji Trophy.
“Rajat is training at MP’s off-season camp, but he’s not been batting, as he has been advised to take a break and recover from the injury in his right hand by the BCCI’s medical team. He will miss the Duleep Trophy but should be fine for the Ranji Trophy,” a source said according to a report by The Times of India.
LSG pace trio undergoes surgery
Apart from Patidar, Mayank Yadav, Avesh Khan, and Mohsin Khan are also on the road to recovery after undergoing successful surgeries in June after the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The three pacers are expected to be out of action for the next six months. They all represented Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the cash-rich league.
Mayank, who played two matches for LSG in IPL 2025 before being ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury, has successfully conducted his surgery. The procedures for the surgery was under the watchful eyes of Dr. Rowan Schouten in Christchurch, New Zealand, back in June. He has played only three T20Is for India against Bangladesh in 2024, taking four wickets at an average of 20.91.
“He’s out for six to eight months,” a source was quoted as saying.

CoE to take care
Both Avesh and Mohsin underwent knee surgeries, conducted by Mumbai-based orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala. The same surgeon has previously operated on India stars Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant as well. Avesh underwent surgery on his right knee on June 17, while Mohsin had surgery on anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction on his knee last month.
Mohsin tore his ACL in the right knee while playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and joined the LSG camp ahead of the IPL 2025. However, he failed to recover from the injury and was replaced by Shardul Thakur. Avesh had trouble in his knee during the 2024/25 domestic season and was forced to miss Madhya Pradesh’s last Ranji Trophy league match. He also missed the initial few matches of IPL 2025.
The trio will miss the first half of the 2025-26 domestic cricket season and are likely to return during the second leg of the Ranji Trophy next year. They will undergo rehab at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) facility in Bengaluru.
