Reports: India's probable 20-member squad for T20 World Cup 2024

As the Indian Premier League 2024 fever is at an all-time high, the T20 World Cup 2024 beckons the whole world from June. There are many talks on which player is going to make the cut in the Indian squad. Amidst all the gung-ho, there are reports by The Economic Times on the probable 20-member squad of the Indian team set to travel West Indies and the USA.

It is to be noted that a group of fifteen players and five backup options are reportedly in consideration with the selectors. Mainstay skipper Rohit Sharma is expected to don the captain's hat, whereas star batter Virat Kohli is also in the list.

Recent reports reveal insights from a meeting of the management, suggesting a potential shake-up in the team selection for upcoming matches. It's hinted that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli may pair up as openers, leaving young talents Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill out of contention. 

Kohli, currently leading the batting charts in IPL 2024, seeks clarity on his T20 World Cup prospects. His stellar form poses a dilemma for the management in side lining the experienced player. This decision poses challenges for Jaiswal, who despite shining in recent international outings, has struggled to get going so far in the IPL 2024. Gill, previously a regular opener with Sharma in T20Is, might find himself relegated to a backup role. 

"The Indian team will be selected some time during the last week of April, the time by which the first half of IPL will be over, and the national selection committee will be in a position to assess form and fitness of the contenders," a senior BCCI source had previously revealed.
