In a major development ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 mini-auction, wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson is reportedly set to return to the Delhi Capitals, with the franchise planning to trade Tristan Stubbs to the Rajasthan Royals (RR). The trade discussions come with just about a month left before the mini-auction.

With Samson likely to part ways with Rajasthan, both franchises have been actively involved in negotiations, exploring multiple trade options as per a TOI report. However, the report indicates that while Delhi Capitals are keen to secure Samson’s services, they are hesitant to release any of their core players.

Meanwhile, Indian Test opener KL Rahul’s name was also mentioned during the trade talks. However, Delhi were unwilling to let go of him, given that he was one of their standout performers last season and continues to hold significant brand value for the franchise.

As per reports, Rajasthan Royals were open to bringing Stubbs into their squad but also demanded an additional uncapped cricketer as part of the deal. However, Delhi Capitals declined the request, which has strengthened the possibility of Sanju Samson returning to the DC colours in the next IPL season.

It is also understood that over the past few months, Rajasthan have explored trade options for Samson with other franchises as well, including a proposal to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) involving Ravindra Jadeja. The Royals reportedly suggested a Samson-for-Jadeja swap, but the talks failed to progress beyond the initial stage. As things stand, Samson’s move to Delhi and Stubbs’ transfer to Rajasthan remain on the cards, provided there are no last-minute hurdles.

Meanwhile, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are continuing their pursuit of Rahul, hoping to secure a proven leader and dependable top-order batter. The strong rapport between new head coach Abhishek Nayar and Rahul is well known, and the KKR management is keen to bring him into the setup. However, as of now, Kolkata appear to lack a tradeable asset that would sufficiently interest the Delhi franchise.
