'She has been phenomenal' - Shree Charani praised for brilliant outings in Women's T20 World Cup 2026
With 10 wickets in just three matches, Charani is currently the highest wicket-taker of the ongoing 2026 edition as well.
Spinner NR Shree Charani has been in superb touch in the ongoing Women's T20 World Cup 2026, which has been the key to India's dominant performances in the global event. Charani's spells have helped the Women in Blue secure wins in two out of three matches, with them being only a match away from securing a berth for the semi-finals. Her outings have also impressed Shikha Pandey.
Shikha, who has spent time with Charani at the Delhi Capitals in the WPL, has reserved massive praise for the young spinner. She added that the star bowler has been excellent with variations and the pace at which she delivers the ball, especially delivering from the other end alongside experienced bowling partner Deepti Sharma.
"The way Shree Charani has bowled in tandem with Deepti Sharma has been great to watch. In the three games she has played so far, she has taken 10 wickets. She has been varying her pace really well," Shikha said while praising the left-arm spinner via Game Plan show on JioStar.
Shree Charani becomes top-ranked T20I bowler amid World Cup
With 10 wickets in just three matches, Charani is currently the highest wicket-taker of the ongoing 2026 edition as well. While all of her wickets have been pleasing to the eye, Shikha has been left awestruck by the wicket of Annerie Dercksen that she took in the most recent clash against South Africa. The 37-year-old has also lauded Charani for sticking to a wicket-to-wicket plan, which keeps batters on their toes all the time.
"The wicket of Annerie Dercksen that she got was probably the best ball you would want to bowl as a left-arm spinner, pitching on off and middle and taking out the off stump. She has been phenomenal with her lengths while keeping the stumps in play all the time," Shikha added further.
Harmanpreet advised to play freely to secure India's SF spot
With the upcoming clash scheduled against Bangladesh Women, Charani will be confident of adding a few more wickets to her basket. If she manages to pull off a memorable spell and help India win the contest, it will also secure a top-two finish in Group 1 for her side. The clash between India and Bangladesh is set to be held on Thursday, June 25, at Old Trafford in Manchester.
