Shikhar Dhawan backs Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to make decisive impact for India in 2027 ODI World Cup

Shikhar Dhawan has expressed confidence in Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. The former India opener backed the two senior batters, saying they will add value to the Indian squad and help the team win the tournament. Dhawan's remarks came during the inauguration of his foundation's first STEM Lab.

Despite persistent questions over whether 37-year-old Virat Kohli and 39-year-old Rohit Sharma can feature in the 2027 World Cup because of their age, the duo have continued to silence critics with strong performances. Rohit and Kohli enjoyed a productive series with the bat against England in July, despite India going down 2-1 in the three-match ODI series. Kohli struck two half-centuries, while Rohit answered with a fluent century at Lord's.

"They are legends. They have performed for the country for so many years. Whether it’s Virat or Rohit, all of us have had a relationship since we were around 16 years old. They are two to three years younger than me, and it is a matter of great joy that they are preparing now," Dhawan was quoted as saying by The Cricket News.

Rohit's century and Kohli's consistency in England series

Rohit's recent performance at Lord's demonstrated his ability to respond when the team faced challenging circumstances during the England series. The opening batter's century showcased his technical prowess and mental resilience during a difficult phase for the Indian batting unit.

"Rohit recently scored a hundred at Lord’s. It was a wonderful century and showed how his bat speaks. He has been doing that for so many years, and when a difficult phase came, he responded in the best possible way with his performances," Dhawan said.

"As for Virat, no amount of praise is enough. The way he keeps himself so fit and continues to perform at the highest level is remarkable," Dhawan said.
