T20 World Cup 2026: Abhishek Sharma hospitalized with stomach infection ahead of India vs Namibia match
Abhishek is doubtful to take part in the upcoming fixture.
Star opening batter Abhishek Sharma has been under medical observation for the last couple of days owing to a stomach infection since the Indian team's arrival in New Delhi for the T20 World Cup 2026 match against Namibia at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. If the reports are to be believed, Abhishek is uncertain to take part in the all-important Group A fixture on Thursday, February 12.
A source in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared an update regarding the attacking cricketer's health condition. The source said that Abhishek is undergoing some important tests, but the team management is unsure whether he will get a discharge from the hospital for participating in the game against Namibia.
"Abhishek has been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi due to a stomach infection. Some tests are being done to ascertain the problem. It is still not clear whether he will be discharged today. But the match against Namibia looks doubtful as of now," a BCCI source said, as quoted by The Hindu.
Should India open with Samson in T20WC match vs Namibia?
The report also adds that Abhishek was present with the entire Indian squad, which visited head coach Gautam Gambhir's residence for a dinner meet on February 8. However, the 25-year-old left the get-together much before the other teammates.
While the gravity of the stomach infection is not extremely serious, taking rest for the match against Namibia is likely to hand Abhishek enough time to recover and come fresh for the game against arch-rivals Pakistan, which will be played on February 15 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
