The 20th match of T20 World Cup 2026 between UAE and Canada turned out to be a thoroughly entertaining contest. After winning the toss, Canada opted to bat but suffered early setbacks as their top order collapsed, leaving them reeling at 38 for 3 in just 5.1 overs.

Canada’s innings was stabilised by a crucial partnership between Harsh Thaker and Navneet Dhaliwal, who absorbed the pressure and rebuilt against a disciplined UAE bowling attack. Dhaliwal looked in good touch before being dismissed, but despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Canada managed to post a competitive total of 150 for 7 in their 20 overs.

The UAE chase got off to a shaky start as they kept losing wickets, largely due to an outstanding spell from Saad Bin Zafar. The left-arm spinner was the standout performer, conceding just 14 runs in his four overs while picking up three key wickets at an exceptional economy rate of 3.5. His spell ripped through the UAE middle order and swung the momentum firmly back in Canada’s favour.

Just when the chase appeared to be slipping away, Aryansh Sharma and Sohaib Khan came together to revive UAE’s hopes. The pair stitched a vital partnership, with Sohaib playing the aggressor’s role. He smashed a blistering 51 off just 29 deliveries, striking four sixes and four fours, and ensured that UAE stayed firmly in control of the chase before his dismissal. By then, he had done enough to put UAE in a commanding position, with the match firmly in their grasp.

Top batting performance: Aryansh Sharma

Aryansh Sharma was the standout performer for UAE, holding the chase with an impactful knock of 74 off 53 deliveries. He struck six fours and three sixes and paced his innings smartly even though wickets kept tumbling at the other end. The opener showed great awareness in rotating the strike when caution was needed and shouldered the responsibility of the chase. When the situation demanded acceleration, he switched gears effortlessly, launching a few big hits in the latter stages to ensure UAE eventually cross the line.

Top bowling performance: Junaid Siddique

Junaid Siddique was the pick of the bowlers, producing a sensational five-wicket haul. The pacer finished with outstanding figures of 5 for 35 from his four overs, hitting the right lengths and never allowing the Canadian batters to settle. His breakthroughs kept Canada under pressure throughout the innings and played a decisive role in restricting them to a manageable total.

Records Broken and Major Milestones Achieved

  • Junaid Siddique registered the second-best bowling figures by an associate bowler in T20 World Cups, finishing with 5/35.
  • Harsh Thaker became the fifth Canadian batter to score a half-century in T20 World Cups, adding another milestone to Canada’s tournament history.

Who was the Player of the Match?

Junaid Siddique was named the Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance, claiming a five-wicket haul while conceding just 35 runs. Siddique was effective in both the powerplay and the death overs, repeatedly breaking partnerships and keeping the pressure on Canada.
