When the West Indies stepped on the subcontinent soil for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, no one really counted them as a strong contender for the Super Eights. However, the Men in Maroon have become the first team to book the spot in the twenty-team tournament after defeating Nepal in a Group C clash at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Sunday, February 15.

The Caribbean side earned a massive nine-wicket win against the Rohit Kumar Paudel-led side while chasing a 134-run target to see themselves through. Skipper Shai Hope admitted that there is a sense of belief in the dressing room, and they have to get past many more obstacles in lifting their third-ever T20 World Cup title, having last won it in 2016.

"Very pleasing [to get into the Super 8s]; this is what we set out to do from the time we got here. That's the one step, one hurdle that we crossed; now on to the next stage," a delighted Hope said at the post-match presentation.

Nepal, on the other hand, have been knocked out of the event after losing their third consecutive encounter and will look to play against Scotland for pride and honour before returning home. They started their campaign with a narrow loss against England, but the trouble deepened after conceding a comfortable win against Italy. The loss against Hope & Co. has now officially knocked them out of the competition.
