West Indies began their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign on a strong note with a comprehensive 35-run victory over Scotland in the second Group C match. Batting first, the Caribbean side put up a competitive total of 182 for five in their 20 overs, setting the tone early with a solid display from the top and middle order.

The West Indies batters, especially Shimron Hetmyer ensured the run rate never dipped, finding boundaries at regular intervals and capitalising on the death overs to put on a fighting total on board.

In reply, Scotland showed early intent but struggled to maintain momentum against a disciplined West Indies bowling attack. Regular wickets in the middle overs stalled their chase and increased the required rate, putting pressure on the Scottish batters.

While a few players attempted to fight back with aggressive strokes, the lack of substantial partnerships proved costly. Scotland were eventually bowled out for 147 in 18.5 overs, well short of the target. Scottish captain Richie Berrington top-scored with a well made 42.

Romario Shepherd took a hat-trick enroute to his five-wicket haul while Jason Holder completed his 100 T20I wickets. West Indies' sharp fielding further added to Scotland’s woes, as were on top of the game throughout the contest. Overall, it was a clinical all-round performance from the two-time champions, sending a clear message to the rest of teams in the tournament.

It was a record-breaking night for the pacer, as he took his second T20I hat-trick. In the 17th over of Scotland’s innings, he took a staggering four wickets, including a hat-trick, to complete his five-fer.
