'That’s what I worked on the most' - Richa Ghosh reveals batting mantra after successful Women's World Cup 2025 campaign
Richa finished with 235 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 133.52.
Richa Ghosh has revealed the batting aspects she worked on ahead of the Women's World Cup 2025. She finished with 235 runs in eight matches at a strike rate of 133.52. Richa underscored that her main objective was to spend longer periods in the middle and focusing more on playing grounded shots and rotating the strike.
“Before the World Cup, I really focused on spending more time at the crease and building my innings. Whenever I got the chance to play, I concentrated on playing grounded shots and making sure I didn’t throw my wicket away. For me, it was all about keeping the scoreboard ticking with singles and holding up one end. That’s what I worked on the most,” stated Richa while speaking on ‘Follow The Blues’.
The wicketkeeper-batter, who was a crucial component of India's maiden Women's World Cup triumph, noted that she kept a goal of playing aggressively which would in turn applied pressure on the opposition.
“My main job was to finish innings strongly by scoring quickly in the final overs. Whenever I got the chance to bat, my focus was on applying the finishing touches. I aimed to maintain a high strike-rate and put pressure on the opposition bowlers. Scoring those extra runs reduces the pressure on our team and gives us a better chance to win,” she added.
Gold-plated gift awaits Richa post Women's World Cup heroics
Richa's highest score in the tournament (94 off 77) came against South Africa during the group stage. Her knock comprised 11 fours and four sixes. However, it came in a losing cause as Nadine de Klerk's unbeaten 84 off 54 took the Proteas over the line by three wickets and seven balls to spare.
India got their revenge on the Laura Wolvaardt-led side in the final of the mega event on November 2 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. Richa played a vital 24-ball 34-run knock which entailed three fours and two sixes in India's 52-run win.
