[Watch] ENG vs IND 2025: Chris Woakes cleans up Nitish Kumar with absolute peach in Edgbaston Test
Nitish Kumar Reddy walked back after a six-ball one.
India’s first innings on Day 1 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston took a major hit in the third session, as pacer Chris Woakes delivered an impressive delivery to dismiss all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy.
Woakes, returning for his second spell, produced a length delivery from around the wicket that seamed back in. Nitish, opting to leave the ball, completely misjudged the line, as the ball crashed onto his off stump. This marked Woakes' second wicket of the innings. Notably, Nitish was inducted into the playing XI for Shardul Thakur to strengthen the lower-middle order batting. However, the youngster playing his sixth Test match managed to add just one run to the tally.

India lose wickets in quick succession
India, after being asked to bat first by England, started slowly. KL Rahul struggled at the top and eventually fell for two off 26 balls, bowled by Woakes. Yashasvi Jaiswal, however, looked in great touch once again, reaching his fifty in just 59 balls. His 87 off 107 deliveries, laced with 13 boundaries, put the team in a solid position until he threw his wicket away to Ben Stokes just after tea.
Karun Nair, playing at No. 3 in place of the dropped Sai Sudharsan, contributed with 31 before Brydon Carse dismissed him with a short delivery just before lunch. Rishabh Pant’s short knock of 25 came to an end when he attempted to smash Shoaib Bashir over long-on and found Zak Crawley in the deep soon. Meanwhile, captain Shubman Gill batting on 76 is with Ravindra Jadeja at the crease, and with more than half an hour of play remaining for the Day, the duo will look to hang in there and lose no more wickets. After 67 overs, the visiting team's score stood at 238/5.
