Joe Root was dismissed early on by Jasprit Bumrah on the second day of the third Test of the ongoing five-match series between England and India. This was the 11th time Bumrah had got the better of Root in Test cricket.

Root's inside edged a delivery bowled just outside the off stump as it crashed into the middle stump. The ball seemingly nipped off the deck. The wicket came on the first ball of the 88th over of the innings, four overs after he brought up his 11th ton against India.

Bumrah struck again on the next ball as Chris Woakes had to walk back for a golden duck. The on-field umpire did not initially raise his finger, however, India's review turned out to be successful after the UltraEdge showed a clear spike on the television replays.

Woakes was the third wicket to fall on the second day. Skipper Ben Stokes was the first one to head back, becoming Bumrah's second wicket of the Test. Stokes' wicket marked an end to an 88-run fifth wicket stand between him and Root. With the three quick wickets in the morning, India would be aiming to wrap the innings as soon as possible.
