Sanju Samson lauded Dhruv Jurel for his knock against LSG at Ekana Stadium in the IPL 2024. The RR skipper said that batting at number 5 is the toughest job in T20 cricket.

The wicketkeeper-batter claimed that form is only temporary and added that the young batter had composure in his batting as it was evident from him in the Test series against England.

"Form is temporary and batting at No.5 is the toughest job in T20 cricket. A youngster like him has the composure as we have seen in Tests,” said Samson in the post-match presentation.

Jurel came to bat when RR was reduced to 78/3 after 8.4 overs, losing the wickets of Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Riyan Parag. The 2008 champions needed stability in the middle.

Dhruv played the second fiddle to his skipper. While Sanju batted brilliantly and took his side home, the middle-order batter registered his maiden fifty in the league. In his stay in the middle, Jurel scored 52 runs in 34 balls, which included 5 fours and 2 sixes. Along with Samson, Dhruv was involved in a 121-run stand which changed the game against LSG.

Jurel has been batting in the nets for one or two hours: Sanju Samson

In the process, RR chased down the total of 197 runs with 7 wickets to spare. It is now the highest successful run chase at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The RR batter further claimed that the management believed in him and felt that Jurel was batting well in the nets for about an hour or two.

Samson felt that it was a matter of time before the right-handed batter stepped up for the side. “We believed in him, he has been batting in the nets for one or two hours, and we knew it was a matter of time (before he delivered),” said Samson. RR will be taking on SRH in their upcoming game, having almost qualified for the playoffs with five games to go.
