As IPL 2024 enters its second half, repeat fixtures will be abundant, and match no. 39 will feature a reverse fixture of the one that happened four days and five matches ago. Having played each other in their latest fixture which was in Lucknow, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will now lock horns in Chennai.

Both teams currently have four wins and eight points from seven matches, but CSK have a better net run rate putting them fourth compared to LSG who are not far behind at fifth.

In the reverse fixture at Lucknow, Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali, Ajinkya Rahane and MS Dhoni made significant contributions to take CSK to 176, but LSG skipper KL Rahul and his opening partner Quinton de Kock got fifties to ensure LSG got there without many hiccups.

CSK are currently unbeaten at their "Anbu Den" in Chennai so far this year and will hope to maintain that streak in the same way they will be hoping to settle the scores against LSG.

MA Chidambaram Stadium Pitch Report:

After producing two flat pitches, it looked like Chepauk was back to its old slow nature when KKR managed only 137/9. Another low-scoring surface can be expected on this ground following suit from the last one. These are the kinds of pitches that CSK have seen most of their success at home in all these years after all. LSG will also be hoping for a spin-friendly surface.

CSK vs LSG Strategies and Match-ups:

While the Chepauk pitch remains unpredictable, it will likely be slow, and on such a pitch, batting second might be the best option especially if any help will be provided to spin. The important matchups for this clash are: KL Rahul vs Mustafizur Rahman, Nicholas Pooran vs Matheesha Pathirana, Ravindra Jadeja vs Krunal Pandya, Ravi Bishnoi vs Ajinkya Rahane. Moeen Ali vs Quinton de Kock.

Player Battles to Watch Out For:

Ravindra Jadeja vs Krunal Pandya:

Ravindra Jadeja's susceptibility to spin is not a secret and it is reflected in his record in this matchup. At a strike of just 109.09, Jadeja has scored 24 runs in 22 balls off the elder Pandya brother and has fallen to him twice at an average of just 12. The record the other way around is not very pretty as Krunal Pandya has only scored 12 runs off 13 balls against Jadeja without ever being dismissed at a strike rate of 92.30.

Quinton de Kock vs Moeen Ali:

Off spin has always been one very exploitable weakness in Quinton de Kock's game, and CSK will be looking to deploy the most potent finger spinner in their ranks. Against Ali in the IPL, de Kock has faced just 9 balls and scored just 7 runs off of them at a strike rate of 77.77, but the exclaim lies in the fact that in just 9 balls, Ali has managed to dismiss de Kock twice leaving him with a batting average of just 3.5 in this matchup.

X-Factors for CSK vs LSG

Chennai Super Kings:

The most consistent contributor in all of CSK's matches this season has been Matheesha Pathirana, especially in their only away win this year against MII where his four wickets single-handedly derailed the chase. Pathirana will again be required to apply the brakes on an LSG lineup that boasts of a very good record against CSK.

Lucknow Super Giants:

Skipper KL Rahul scored 82 the last time these two teams faced each other, and considering his generally good record against CSK, he will once again be the X-Factor if LSG have to make it two in two against CSK.
