The Champions Trophy 2017 will witness India vs Pakistan clash in a tournament final after a gap of 9 years and only the 2nd time in an ICC event with the first one being the 2007 World T20 final. Fans of both the teams would be expecting a cracker of a game as Pakistan leads in the head to head record in finals but India holds the recent results on their side.

However, the England weather might not allow the big game to get through without any interruptions like it was in the semi-finals. The 2nd semi-final started with rain but luckily it didn’t return at any point in time to halt play. However, as per the forecast of The Oval, the venue of the final on June 18th showers are expected throughout the afternoon.

The only positive factor is that the Champions Trophy final has a reserve day and the match can be continued from the point where the game is paused on the actual match day or can start fresh if the game is washed out completely without a ball being bowled.

In case the minimum overs mandatory for a result are not completed even on the reserve day, India and Pakistan will end up sharing the Champions Trophy title. In the case of the match getting tied, both the teams will be playing in the Super Over and if that is not possible due to the weather conditions, the title will be shared.

The Champions Trophy already has a history of shared winners when India and Sri Lanka were the finalists in the 2002 edition and the final was washed out on the actual day and on the reserve day as well. There are two instances in International cricket so far where a tournament title was shared after the final was washed out and no play was possible on the reserve day as well and India featuring in both of them.

The other instance was against South Africa in 2003 in a Triangular series in Bangladesh.
