Sri Lankan team might suffer a major blow as their most experienced pace bowler on tour, Dhammika Prasad, might be unable to feature in the series opener. It was during the practice match against Essex when the fast bowler suffered a shoulder injury on the field.

Dhammika Prasad was into his 18th over against Essex at Chelmsford when he felt a niggle in his shoulder. He could not complete his bowling spell and was subsequently sent for a medical examination. No significant results could perspire from the initial scan following which the pacer is set to undergo another scan.

Dhammika Prasad will have his shoulder injury scan this week and is set to miss the practice match against Leicestershire. Sri Lanka are scheduled to play their second warm-up match where they take on Leicestershire on Friday. The intensity and severity of the injury is unknown but it is speculated that he might miss out on playing the first Test at Headingley.

Sri Lanka will play England in a three-Test match series that kicks off on May 19. The visitors have had a horrid time in the first warm-up match against Essex and were staring right at a potential defeat. They were bundled out for 254 in the first innings, in response to which Essex posted a mammoth 412/4 decl. Sri Lanka, in their second innings, were at 42/2 by the end of day two. However, the third and final day of the match was washed out and the match ended in a draw.
