Consequences of horrific stampede
Furthermore, the Karnataka government has taken strong measures after the incident, with multiple arrests having been made, including that of RCB’s Head of Marketing and Revenue, Nikhil Sosale, and officials from DNA Entertainment Network, RCB’s event management partner. FIRs have been filed citing mismanagement and confusion over crowd control due to the public announcement of free passes, which led to overcrowding at multiple gates.
Additionally, Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) Secretary A Shankar and Treasurer ES Jairam have resigned, citing moral responsibility. While the KSCA’s Apex Council accepted their resignations, it ruled out mass resignations as of now.
While the BCCI does have the authority to impose penalties, including bans, for breaches of public safety under its franchise agreements, there is no official word from the board regarding any such action against RCB. The judicial commission, headed by Justice Michael D'Cunha, is expected to submit a report within 30 days.
