The ongoing South Africa’s tour of India has been a witness to a number of instances, when fans tried to breach the security. It started with the T20I series when a few supporters tried to make their way on the field at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. Even during the Test series, it has happened a few times, something that hasn’t gone down well with Sunil Gavaskar by any means.

The former Indian batsman said that security officials are not there at the ground to watch matches for free. In one of the games, a fan tried to reach Rohit Sharma, who was fielding in the slip cordon. Even as the Indian cricketers saw the lighter side of the incident, Gavaskar was clearly unhappy and he lashed out. However, the situation didn’t change even in the third Test in Ranchi.

In the first day of the Test at the JSCA International Stadium, a supporter made his way to Quinton de Kock. It happened when the southpaw was on the field. He ran towards the Proteas fielder and gave him a hug. De Kock was a tad scared and he tried to move away from the fan. In the meantime, the fan got a thrashing from the security officials on the way back off the field.

The officials were seen in an aggressive mode while taking the fan away from the cricket pitch. In the meantime, he forgot one of his slippers on the field amidst all the beating. Seeing the footwear on the ground, Quinton picked it up and returned the same to the concerned person.

A tough day for Quinton de Kock

From a cricketing perspective, De Kock hasn’t had the best of times of late. He scored a century in the first innings of the opening Test in Visakhapatnam, but has strained to find his feet ever since. In the Ranchi Test, he was given the mantle of opening the batting in the absence of Aiden Markram.

In the second over of the South African innings, he got a vicious bouncer from Umesh Yadav. He couldn’t handle the bounce and gave a simple catch to Wriddhiman Saha. De Kock got out for four off six balls, leaving his team with a trail of 488 runs with eight first-innings wickets left.
