The Kaps were beaten by the Galle Gallants in their opening match of the 2026 season. Being put into bat, they put up a competitive score of 189 for 6 in their 20 overs, courtesy of Kusal Mendis' brilliant 79 off 53 balls. The captain has continued his form from the 2026 PSL, where he was one of the most prolific batters. They were unable to defend the total, though, as the Gallants chased it down with five wickets in hand and four balls to spare.

The Royals were beaten by the Dambulla Sixers in their opening game. They were unable to chase down a total of 206 despite late back-end runs from Wanindu Hasaranga and Vijay Shankar. They fell short by 18 runs in the end, posting a total of 187 for 6.
