The Indian Premier League is one of the most celebrated T20 leagues around the world. The glitz, glamour, and immense wealth attached to it adds to the glory. Fans around the world mostly know things that come well on the table and get highlighted on social media but there even exists a part of the league which is lesser-known. Ever since the inception of the IPL in 2008, there have been various stories of the league that have not come to fans’ attention properly. Sometimes the media doesn’t highlight it much and on the other hand, people are not only able to bring the correct facts to the fore. In the same sequence, let’s take a look at- Lesser-known stories of the IPL 1. Ravindra Jadeja got banned for IPL 2010 season (Photo Source: Hotstar) Not many would connect with the story as it mostly remained under the table back in the year 2010 when ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja used to play for Rajasthan Royals. It came to the notice that Jadeja was reluctant in signing a contract renewal as per reports. And this is why the governing council of IPL decided to ban Jadeja from IPL 2011 auctions and playing year 2010. This occurred because it was also reported that the all-rounder was constantly trying to negotiate with other franchises for more money. The reports came in February 2010 that in line with the above-mentioned actions, Jadeja will be missing out on an auction that will decide how players will get redistributed for the expanded 2011 season. He also missed the entire 2010 season. 2. Virat Kohli breaches BCCI guidelines in IPL 2015 Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma. (Photo Source: Twitter) The incident happened in IPL 2015 while Virat Kohli-led RCB were up against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) during a match at M Chinnaswamy stadium. Skipper Kohli stepped out of the players’ area to see and chat with his then-girlfriend Anushka Sharma. Kohli was spotted chatting with Anushka in the VIP box during a rain break. It created a lot of controversies as players are not allowed to interact with anyone other than dug-out members. As per anti-corruption guidelines, Virat Kohli breached the laws and then BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur stated that the star batsman will be issued a notice as no player is above law but it was reported later that he was let go without much hassle. 3. Fake IPL Player Fake IPL player. (Photo Source: Wikipedia) Fake IPL player was a cricket blog started in 2009 and remained anonymous till 2010 when marketing specialist Anupam Mukerji was revealed to be the man behind it. The blog wrote secretly about KKR players, coaches, and other team members in a negative way. He gave weird nicknames to players and brought in limelight various stories that created a negative impact on fans. Earlier it was assumed that the blog is managed by one of the players of KKR only who is frustrated with not being part of the core team. The blog stories gain much attention and turned worse when KKR endured a horrible season in 2009 and there were some controversies around their coach John Buchanan and their captains changed on a frequent basis. 4. Confessions of Cheerleaders IPL Cheerleaders. (Photo Source: Twitter) The points raised by cheerleaders have been in news several times. Many accused the IPL organizers of being racist as they selected only white women for this job. Many even added that they were objectified on various occasions. However, the turning point came in 2011 when cheerleader Gabriella Pasqualotto said that flirtatious parties are being organized by Mumbai Indians, through her blog. She added that a lot of players had privacy concerns with respect to the same blog. After raising her voice repeatedly, a change did come, when the communication or even friendly relations between players and cheerleaders were completely ceased after her shocking revelations. 5. After party scenes IPL after-party. (Photo Source: Twitter) It is a known fact that IPL is the most lucrative T20 tournament in the world and just because enormous cash is associated with it, the glamour and party scenes also operate on a different level. It is just not the clean game going on all the time. After-party scenes are very common and more when they come in context with big players and probably the biggest league. It has been reported on various occasions that after consuming alcohol, players have often indulged in ugly spats. Under the influence of alcohol, many times players have collided on certain issues and before it could come very well on the table, the big organizers have been very well able to cover it to maintain the clean image of the Indian Premier League.
