Joginder Sharma might have been a one night hero for the Indian cricket team, but the bowler stood the test of time and is still fondly remembered by fans for his last over of the final of 2007 World Cup against Pakistan. Captain MS Dhoni invested blind faith in a relatively unknown bowler but the Haryana man repaid his captain’s trust as he removed Misbah-ul-Haq in the last over and India beat arch-rivals Pakistan to lift the inaugural T20 World Cup trophy.

As per the latest news his father, Om Prakash Sharma, was attacked by miscreants, who stabbed him with a knife and thoroughly robbed him outside his confectionary shop. When the 68-year-old was shutting his store in Rohtak on Saturday night, two miscreants came to purchase cigarettes and cold drinks and after buying, they returned to the shop again to loot Joginder’s father.

In his complaint, Sharma said, “They first tried to take cash from my pockets. But when I tried to stop them, one of the boys took out a knife and tried to stab me in my stomach. I stopped him by holding the knife in my hands. They then entered my shop and took all the cash from the drawer. They took nearly Rs 7,000,” as per HT.

Locked inside the shop

However, that was not the end to the misery. To worsen it further, Om Prakash was locked inside his shop after being looted and was taken to the hospital only after his second son, Deepak, broke open the door.

“He suffered knife injuries in his hands when he tried to stopped them from stabbing him in the stomach. He has been discharged now,” Deepak was quoted as saying.

A notable aspect here is that Joginder, who is popular for his cricketing exploits now holds the position of Deputy Commissioner of Haryana Police and the department will be under pressure to get hold of the culprits pretty soon.
