The coronavirus has been spreading like wildfire across the globe after the first case was reported in December 2019, in Wuhan Province of China. Since then, affected people travelling to various countries have contaminated more than 250,000 others worldwide, with more than 10,000 deaths being recorded, making it one of the deadliest modern-day pandemics.

Countries like Italy, China, Spain, Iran, and the USA have recorded the most number of deaths and cases of the COVID-19 virus and the respective governments were forced to take stringent measures like a complete lockdown of certain areas in the nations and urging people to practice social distancing and avoiding gathering at one place.

Cricket has suffered as well, with tournaments and T20 leagues being called off one after another and questions are raised over how the game will recover from this virtual shut down of everything. England’s Alex Hales was one of the big names to admit that he might have coronavirus, which the tests are yet to confirm, but Scotland’s former spinner Majid Haq recently announced, that he has the virus and is under medical care.

‘The Panther will be back to full health soon’ – Majid Haq

The 37-year-old posted the news on Friday morning on his Twitter account, saying he was being treated at Royal Alexandra Hospital in the Paisley area of Glasgow. Scotland has confirmed 266 cases of COVID-19 as on March 19 as per the UK government’s dedicated NHS web site for Coronavirus information. In all, the whole United Kingdom has 3,269 confirmed cases and 144 deaths.

“Looking forward to potentially getting back home today after testing positive with Coronavirus. Staff at the RAH in Paisley have been good to me & thank you to everyone who has sent me messages of support. Insha Allah the Panther will be back to full health soon. #covid19UK,” Haq tweeted.

Haq, who last played for Scotland 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, appeared in 54 ODIs and 21 T20Is for his country and was overtaken by pacer Safyaan Sharif as the country’s highest ODI wicket-taker in 2019. Majid Haq has continued to play in the domestic cricket in Scotland, leading the Royal High Corstorphine CC in the Cricket Scotland League Eastern Premiership for the 2019 summer.
