Despite being in the latter stage of his career, MS Dhoni is still regarded as one of the best finishers of the game. Unorthodox batting technique coupled with a genius cricket brain– Dhoni etched his name as one of the most successful skippers of India. Besides proving his mettle with the Indian side, Dhoni also led Chennai Super Kings to three IPL titles along with winning the now-defunct Champions League T20 twice.

Over the years, Dhoni earned himself the reputation of being one of the most successful skippers in the history of cricket. Moreover, his power, execution and strategy helped him emerge as one of the greats. The wicketkeeper-batsman has played a pivotal role in the success of CSK. Since the inception of IPL, Dhoni has been an indispensable part of the Yellow Army.

Former Australian batsman and Dhoni’s ex-teammate Michael Hussey also stated his opinion that the CSK skipper is the greatest finisher of all time in the cricketing world. Hussey heaped praise on Dhoni and said that the 38-year-old knows how to keep his cool and his self-belief helps him dictate the game.

“Dhoni is the greatest finisher of all time that the cricketing world has ever produced,” Hussey told Sanjay Manjarekar on ESPNcricinfo’s Videocast.

“Dhoni can keep his cool and make the opposition captain blink first. Dhoni also has unbelievable power. He knows that when he needs to clear the ropes he can do it. He has that kind of self-belief. Honestly, I didn’t have that kind of belief in myself,” he added.

Michael Hussey lauds MS Dhoni’s batting while chasing a total

Hussey revealed that he also tried to learn a trick or two about chasing while seeing Dhoni play for Chennai Super Kings. According to Hussey, the former Indian skipper believes that one who panics last wins the game eventually.

“I tried not to let it reach 12 or 13 runs an over. And I learnt this from MS Dhoni. He is incredible. He believes that he who panics last wins the game. So Dhoni would keep his cool, and keep it longer because the pressure is on the bowler as well,” said Hussey.

Hussey also revealed that great players don’t hang on to a defeat for too long. Along with Dhoni, Hussey also lauded Ricky Ponting and stated that a loss didn’t use to affect these great players.

“They don’t hang on to a defeat for too long. If they lose, they move on quickly. They don’t let a loss or a win hamper their thinking. They are always consistent, and level headed whether it’s MS Dhoni or Ricky Ponting”.
