India is probably one of the strongest favorites to lift the ICC World Cup on 14th of July, later this year at the home of Cricket, The Lord’s. While the team looks more or less, sorted, there are some minor kinks in the armor, regarding the backups for the important players.

One of the most heated debates has been about the backup opener. In case India is dealt with a huge blow in an injury to Rohit Sharma, a suitable backup needs to be ready to deliver in the high-pressure World Cup games and recently, KL Rahul was included in the T20I and ODI squads for Australia series. While KL was hugely disappointing in the entire 2018, his inclusion came as a surprise to everyone including his fans. So now what if RG Sharma gets injured?

India does have a plethora of resources to look into in order to make up for the loss of their dynamic first choice opener and having said that, let’s have a look at the 3 probable players who might be the perfect backup for the 31-year-old.

3. Mayank Agarwal

When Mayank made his Test debut in testing conditions in Australia, he provided a glimpse of his natural ability to play positive and attacking Cricket, much like Rohit Sharma. The Right-handed batsman from Karnataka was instrumental in scripting India’s dominating performances in the third and the fourth Tests, and not to forget, the 28-year-old amassed 193 runs in 3 Innings, playing a pivotal role in providing those much needed stable starts against the moving ball.

Agarwal is fit as ever and some might even argue over the fact that he is probably quicker and more agile than Rohit Sharma. Mayank has been phenomenal in the last couple of years and some lustrous performances in the upcoming IPL might break down the door to the flight to England, ahead of KL Rahul.
