Mohammed Shami has been going through a turbulent phase in his career. The Bengal pacer has recently been accused by his wife Hasin Jahan of domestic violence, extra-marital affairs, involvement in match-fixing and death threats. Subsequently, his career has gone into the doldrums as his annual contract for India has been withheld by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Meanwhile, his contract for the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has also come under the cloud. To make things worse, there’s a probability of termination of his contract in the prestigious tournament. As per reports in The Statesman, the Governing Council of the Indian league will meet at the BCCI headquarters at Mumbai on Monday and will take a call on Shami’s participation in the league.

The ‘awaited meeting’ for Shami

BCCI President CK Khanna, BCCI’s acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary, IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla, treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary, CEO Rahul Johri, and Supreme Court appointed CoA members are most likely to attend the meet. Most recently, an official of the Daredevils franchise spoke to the media and shared an update on Shami’s participation in the league.

“Look Daredevils management can’t take any unilateral decision in this matter. All players who play in the IPL have a tripartite contract involving the franchise, BCCI, and the player. Yes, we are well aware of the sensitive situation and we are having discussions with top BCCI officials. There is a clause about any player bringing disrepute but it is for the lawyers to interpret it,” the official said.

Shami has been an integral part of the Indian team, especially in Test cricket. He has also played in quite a few seasons of the IPL league. The matter between Shami and Hasin Jahan has worsened over the past few days and people would be hoping for justice to prevail in the much-debated controversy.
