David Warner and Steve Smith have been in the limelight for all the wrong reasons for the last year. However, their 12-month ban was lifted last month and they’ve let their cricket to do the talking. Warner has been a part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad and has been a crucial member of the side. On the other hand, Smith has been handed the captaincy of the Rajasthan Royals midway through the season.
Warner has been in fabulous form, scoring a plethora of runs in this IPL season. He is currently the holder of the Orange Cap with 611 runs at an average of 67.88 which includes seven half-centuries and one hundred. Meanwhile, Smith who had a lacklustre first half has got back into form and now has 319 runs in this IPL. However, both these Australian stars have one more game left in this IPL as they have to head back to Australia in order to prepare for the upcoming World Cup.
Smith dives to take a brilliant catch but may have hurt his elbow
Before the IPL, both Steve Smith and David Warner suffered from elbow injuries. While Warner’s was a minor one, Smith had to undergo a surgery. The former Aussie skipper still sports a heavy tapping on his right elbow.
On Saturday, when Rajasthan Royals (RR) took on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Smith took a brilliant diving catch to dismiss Warner. However, in the process, he landed on his right elbow which was taped. He was seen clutching his elbow after taking the catch and he also looked to be in some pain. However, he didn’t go off the field and also, batted later on. Smith scored 22 in RR’s successful chase of 161.
After the game, Smith revealed that his elbow did hurt after that catch but also, hoped for it to be fine. “Just landed on the elbow. Hopefully, it’s OK, it hurt initially because of the impact. I’ll know more when I take the tape off,” the Rajasthan Royals skipper was quoted saying in the post-match presentation.
He will be returning to the Australian national side after 14 months when he takes part in the upcoming World Cup.
